Scanning electron microscope (SEM)

Following appropriate chemical attack, the microscopic structure of alloys may be determined by observation using the Scanning electron microscope (SEM) which, together with the microanalysis probe, also allows qualitative chemical analysis (EDX) of the area under observation.
The SEM/microanalysis also makes characterisation of the metal/ceramic or metal/composite interface possible, essential for the research into novel materials.
