| Today,
all-ceramic is the technique which most allows us
to achieve “natural” esthetic results. Some techniques
for making integral ceramic elements turn out to require
in-depth investigation, a lot of work time, and almost
all the steps must be delegated to the ceramist. Some
of these techniques are ill-suited to production laboratories
even if they are of high quality. In my laboratory
we introduced the Ceramic Pressed to Metal (CPM) technique
for large aesthetic reconstructions made of pressed
ceramic coping of which the aesthetic part is then
layered. This allows us to follow the same
operating protocol as that used in metalceramic techniques
(including tests and replacement impressions). For
years we have used Performance, a system of high thermal
expansion ceramic produced and distributed by Nobil
Metal. It is a versatile, practical, usable system
with multiple techniques that permit the use of the
same material whether you are employing all-ceramic
or metal-ceramic techniques. With the Performance
system you can quickly and precisely make facets,
all-ceramic both with layering and with coloring ceramic
pressed to metal and 360 degree ceramic shoulder elements
which are stable, precise and easy to obtain.
The chromatic results that can be obtained are among
the strong points of ceramics.
For the pressed technique the ceramic ingots available
in various chromatic and opaque shades allow me to
obtain both core and dentinal structure with excellent
chromatic bases. Layered ceramics have a shade, opacity
and transparency which is difficult to find in other
ceramics, in addition to its enviable stability. The
new ceramics layering masses have increased the possibilities
for the ceramists but the great advantage I have found
in the day to day use of Performance
is that I am able to follow a defined operating protocol
even when doing aesthetic work without having to invent
something for each job to obtain particular chromatic
effects. With Performance, every time I apply a stain,
an opaque mass, or a transparent mass I know exactly
how it will behave, and what the result will be.
As we say between professionals: the colour comes
easy. |
